New General Catalogue

The New General Catalogue (NGC) is an astronomical catalogue compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888. It includes a variety of celestial objects, such as galaxies, star clusters, and emission nebulae. Dreyer went on to publish another two object lists known as the Index Catalogues (IC) in 1895 and 1908.
The NGC catalogue builds upon the work of William and Caroline Herschel, as well as John Herschel's General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars. The NGC catalogue includes objects south of the celestial equator thanks to the observations of John Herschel and James Dunlop.
This gallery is a collection of astrophotography from the NGC catalogue and includes objects from the IC catalogue. Some objects may be associated with multiple catalogues.
