How it started
My love for space started with a school trip to the Mt Cootha planetarium in primary school. That virtual ride through the cosmos had me hooked! Stargazing became my favorite pastime.
In high school, I spent countless hours in the darkroom, developing negatives and turning them into photographs. That hands-on experience sparked a lifelong passion for photography. I even got myself a Diploma in Digital Imagery and Photography from Torrens University.
In 2017, I launched a wedding and portrait photography business. But my true calling came when I stumbled upon a deep-space image on Facebook – a real light bulb moment. I had always wanted to photograph the night sky, but I didn't know it was possible with such detail from my backyard.
After diving into the overwhelming world of deep space astrophotography, I finally bought my first telescope in 2020 – a second-hand Sky-Watcher Black Diamond 150/750 F5 six-inch Newtonian. Since then, I've learned so much from the astro community. Now, I'm paying it forward, inspiring others to follow their passions, and supporting fellow women in the astro community.
Let's keep reaching for the stars, one photon at a time!
Hey there, I'm Kat!
I'm an astrophotographer and Sky-Watcher Australia ambassador based in the land down under. Born in a tiny country town in New South Wales, I've now set up camp in sunny southeast Queensland. My biggest passion? Snapping stellar photos, of course!
My journey into astrophotography kicked off in 2020, but I've been capturing photons long before that – as a landscape, portrait, and wedding photographer. I love to travel, spend time in nature, go camping, and hiking. Basically, I want to see the world!
When I'm not busy photographing the stars, you'll find me binging history or true crime documentaries, digging into my family tree, strumming my guitar, upcycling furniture, doing crafty things like pyrography, or reading and drawing.
