The solar system is a collection of celestial bodies that orbit the sun, a massive star that provides light and heat. The sun is the center of the solar system and holds everything together with its gravity.

The solar system has eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Each planet has its own characteristics, such as size, shape, atmosphere, and moons.

The solar system also contains many smaller objects, such as asteroids, comets, dwarf planets (like Pluto), and Kuiper belt objects. The solar system is part of a larger structure - our galaxy - the Milky Way.
